Homecoming and Family Weekend

Come back to campus for Homecoming and Family Weekend, October 14 – 16, a celebration for families, alumni and the campus community! We will be celebrating 90 wonderful years of Choir of the West with events throughout the weekend. Other special gatherings include reunion festivities for the Classes of 1956, 1966 and 1991. PLU will take on Whitworth in the traditional the Homecoming football battle at Sparks Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

We are also excited to announce a very special Saturday night event, PLU on Tap! This event will feature samplings of alumni and locally-produced beers and wines paired with delicious appetizers. It is a great opportunity to meet Lutes from all generations and try some libations. Check out the full schedule below for all of the happenings!

Stop in to explore the Nordic Explorers: Reaching beyond the Horizon exhibition currently featured.  This exhibition, featuring art work, artifacts, and archival material, traces some of the adventures of these notable Nordic explorers all around the world: Leif Eriksson, Thor Heyerdahl, Roald Amundsen, Karen Blixen, Rurik the Viking, and Hans Egede.

PLU Men’s Soccer v. Linfield

Choir of the West Concert

The weekend will end with a 90th Anniversary Choir of the West Concert! Listen to alumni from the different eras combine with current choir members.

Special Lecture: Viking Literature
Time: 4 p.m.
Location: Scandinavian Cultural Center
Two creative and amusing senior scholars of Icelandic literature and one modern Icelandic author combine to bring to PLU a delightful program about the literature of the Vikings! A new translation in all of the Scandinavian languages, plus English and German, has been produced of the humorous, adventurous, and laconic stories written down in Iceland during the 13th century about their Viking ancestors. These stories, full of witty one-liners and fancy maneuvers, became the inspiration for the Hollywood Westerns of the 1930s. Come learn more about the Sagas!

Students and their family members are invited to kick the day off with a delicious brunch and remarks from PLU President Thomas Krise.

In order to help make the registration process easier, we have added several package options for some of our special groups. Please give us a call or email with any questions.


The Choir of the West Package is available for $55/person (a $68 value!). If you would like to sing in the anniversary concert and participate in the rehearsals, you must choose this package. It includes:

  • 90th Anniversary Kick off Reception
  • Three rehearsal with paid accompanists
  • Choir of the West Banquet (includes alcohol)*
  • Sheet music for performance
  • Football game ticket*

*Please note, you will be able to purchase additional banquet and football game tickets for any non-choir guests on the registration form.


The 50th Reunion Package is available for $45/person (a $70 value!). The package includes admission to:
