Jan Praxel '70

Alumni Board

Board Member Since: 2011

Jan’s professional career has surpassed the statistics for her generation, which tells of five job changes as an average.  She taught high school English in three different districts, developed and administered a pre-school, taught classes for the Yakima Herald Republic, taught at Gonzaga University and WSU Spokane Campus, was an administrator for the Spokane Public Schools, worked for State Farm as an Independent Agent, and retired from teaching as a Mentor for new and troubled teachers in the Spokane Public Schools.  Jan says, “PLU prepared me well for a variety of careers.”

Jan retired three years ago and after worrying that she’d be bored, she took on far too many part time jobs in education.  So this year Jan has really retired, and now her life consists of the things she always wanted to do.  She spends numerous hours as “Nonnie” with four beautiful grandchildren and cooks new recipes for her family and friends. Jan teaches writing classes at a retirement home, reads like crazy and travels with her husband, family and friends.
