Alaska Connection Council “Kick Off”
Saturday, July 14th
9:00am - 1:00pmWe are very excited to announce the public launch of the long anticipated Alaska Connection Council! We have heard the requests to have local chapter groups and we are pleased to say, with the support of key volunteers in your community, this dream has become a reality in Alaska. Connection Councils are regional leadership teams comprised of members of PLU volunteer boards and committees as well as individuals interested in helping PLU alumni, parents and friends stay connected with one another in their geographic region and with the university.
The first official “Kick Off” event will be a service event at the Anchorage Park Foundation Summer Neighbor-Powered Fix-it at Shady Birch Park. This event needs volunteer support in the following capacity: Brush clean up, some minimal turf repair and seeding, weeding, trash removal and vegetation pruning. So come in some Lute gear that you don’t mind getting dirty! This event will be a great way for you to connect with other Lutes in your area as well as do something good for your community and the environment.
• Date: Saturday, July 14th
• Time: 9:00am - 1:00pm
• Lunch: lunch provided from 12:00pm - 1:00pm
• Location: Shady Birch Park
PLU Connection Councils are unique because they not only involve PLU alumni (e.g., "alumni" chapter model you might find at other universities) but because we underscore the importance of our friends by inviting past and present parents, members of our Lutheran congregations, and friends of the university to serve on these councils and participate fully in all of our regional efforts.
The Alaska Connection Council is still looking for dedicated people who would like to serve the university by being a part of the Connection Council leadership team. If you are interested in becoming more involved with the Alaska Connection Council please contact Stacey Stone Semmler '06 at email@example.com or Michelle Story '09, Outreach Events & Volunteer Manager at firstname.lastname@example.org.
