NCRC Championships

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Amber Iverson and Kat Jenkins provided
the highlight for the Pacific Lutheran rowers when they won the
Women’s Pairs race at the NCRC Championships held Saturday,
April 19, on Vancouver Lake.
In a race shortened to 1000 meters because of difficult course
conditions brought on by bad weather, Iverson and Jenkins finished
in a time of 4:44.05, beating the Humboldt State team by 1.03
seconds.
The best finish by a PLU men’s boat came in the 2nd Varsity
4 where the Lutes placed second in a time of 3:47.73, 3.43 seconds
behind the winning Puget Sound entry.
Only one other PLU boat finished in the top three in its race,
that coming in the women’s Varsity Lightweight 4, and the
Lutes’ A and B boats actually finished third and fourth
in that competition.
“Conditions on the race course were horrible,” said
PLU head coach Tone Lawver. At one point the races were postponed
due to weather, and then the race course was shortened to one-half
the distance after the fifth of 21 races.
Pacific Lutheran finished in sixth place out of seven teams in
both the women’s and men’s NCRC team standings. Western
Washington won the women’s competition with 60.5 points.
PLU finished with 17 points, one-half point behind fifth-place
Humboldt State. On the men’s side, Puget Sound easily won
with 42 points while the Lutes ended up with 9.5 points.
Individually, PLU men’s coach Beth Henderson received co-coach
of the year honors, while sophomore Shayna Horrocks and senior
Justin Hull earned all-conference recognition.
