CREW: Lutes Versus Loggers in Meyer Lamberth
Cup
THIS WEEKEND: Pacific Lutheran meets Puget Sound
in the annual Meyer Lamberth Cup this Saturday on American Lake.
The first race, the Women’s Junior Varsity 8, gets underway
at 9:15 a.m.
MEYER LAMBERTH NOTES: There are six races on
the schedule with the featured events being the Lamberth Cup between
the schools’ Women’s Varsity 8 boats and the Meyer
Cup between the schools’ Men’s Varsity 8 boats. The
31st annual Lamberth Cup gets underway at 10 a.m. Puget Sound
won the 2007 race, clocking 7:35.5 to Pacific Lutheran’s
7:56.2. Last year, the Lutes didn’t have enough rowers to
put an eight-man boat on the water, so the Meyer Cup automatically
went to the Loggers. This year, the Lutes will have their Varsity
8 ready for the head-to-head duel with the Loggers in what will
be the 45th annual event. The Meyer Cup is scheduled for a 10:15
a.m. start. Also on the slate are the Mini Meyer Cup, the Mini
Lamberth Cup and the annual Neils Cup Mixed race featuring alumni
from both schools.
VIEWING: Spectators can view the closing portion
of each race from the boathouse area at Harry Todd Park in Lakewood.
To get to Harry Todd Park, take I-5 to exit 123 (Thorne Lane),
head west across the railroad tracks on N. Thorne Lane SW, and
take the second right to stay on Thorne Lane and then stay left
on Woodlawn Street SW. Turn right into the parking lot.
