PLU Advances Five Boats to WIRA Grand
Finals
First
Day Results
RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - Pacific Lutheran had a solid day on
Saturday at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA)
Championships on Lake Natoma, advancing five boats to grand finals
on Sunday.
Advancing to grand finals were the men's lightweight 4, the women's
novice lightweight 4, the men's varsity 4, women's pair, and the
women's varsity lightweight 4.
The men's lightweight 4 and men's varsity 4 are the same rowers,
but the varsity 4s are usually the larger rowers, so PLU head
coach Tone Lawver made special mention of their success. He also
lauded the women's novice lightweight 4 boat that consisted of
one rower who started in the fall and three "spring rowers,"
who are athletes who all participated on other PLU fall sports
teams.
The women's pair of Kat Jenkins and Amber Iverson had the best
qualifying performance of any of the PLU boats that advanced to
the grand final, placing second out of the six qualifiers with
a time of 9:05.
The WIRA Championships concludes on Sunday, and with it the PLU
season will come to a close.
