Kat Jenkins leads
Lutes in first spring regatta |
The first race takes off at 7:50 a.m. with the hard-working novice
(first-year rowers) eight leading the way. For some rowers in
this boat, this is the first regatta of their rowing careers.
First race or not,, the novice team will have a race full of passion
and power.
Ten minutes later, the women’s varsity four will be racing
SPU down the course, followed by the men’s varsity four
at 8:25. The men’s team has a shortage of rowers but not
a shortage of talent. This is their only race for the day so they
will be giving it their all in hopes of taking first.
At 8:55, the Lutes have the JV four competing against the Falcons'
boat. As that race finishes up, the last race to take place will
be the women’s eight at 9:40. For this race, they have a lightweight
8 and the varsity 8 that will be competing against SPU’s one
varsity eight.
When all races are finished, the real festivities begin: pancakes
and a full-on breakfast. They are all competitors on the 2,000-meter
sprint course but when it comes time to eat, they are all friends
and family of the rowing community.
