Trinity Shows its Talent in 3-1 Win over PLU

Box Score

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Trinity University, ranked No. 7 in the Division III men's national preseason poll, showed its class today in a 3-1 victory over Pacific Lutheran.

The Tigers, who attempted 20 shots to 10 for the Lutes, took the lead 8:32 into the match on the first of Patrick Floeck's two goals. Trinity surged ahead 2-0 at the 38:07 mark on a tally by Chris Schardon, and Floeck added the third goal just 1:33 into the second half (46:33) to give his side a 3-0 advantage.

As they had in their season-opening loss to Southwestern on Saturday, the Lutes fell behind and just couldn't make up the difference. Their lone tally in this match came from Erik Gracey, who scored at 51:41 on an assist from Andy Stolz.

PLU junior goalkeeper Andrew Croft finished the match with six saves, while Trinity's David Steinberg had four saves, all in the first half.

The Lutes return to action at noon on Tuesday when they play nationally ranked UC Santz Cruz at Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore.
