Cal Lutheran Spoils PLU Men’s Soccer Home Debut, 2-0

Box Score

PARKLAND, Wash. – California Lutheran spoiled the 2007 home debut of the Pacific Lutheran men’s soccer team, scoring a 2-0 victory over the Lutes on Friday afternoon.

The visiting Kingsmen, who improved their record to 2-0, scored a pair of goals in each half to hand the Lutes their fourth loss in as many matches this season. Josh Moskowitz got the visitors on the board at 31:09 when his curling left-footed 30-yard free kick slipped through the fingers of PLU goalkeeper Andrew Croft and into the upper corner of the goal.

In the second half, California Lutheran put the game on ice with a goal at 76:26. Senior midfielder Chris Estes, who had a superb game for the Kingsmen, beat Croft with a shot following a goal mouth scramble.

Chris Thompson logged all 90 minutes in goal for the Kingsmen and made two saves to pick up the clean sheet.

The visitors took 11 shots to 10 for the Lutes, but Cal Lutheran’s marksmanship was much better as it scored the two goals and forced Croft to make four saves. Pacific Lutheran had three corner kicks to one for the Kingsmen.

The Lutes return to action on Saturday, Sept. 15, when they host George Fox in the Northwest Conference opener. The match kicks off at 2:30 p.m.
