Lutes Handle Saint Martin’s, 5-0, for Fourth Straight Win

Ryan Hanna - two more goals for PLU

Box Score

PARKLAND, Wash. – Pacific Lutheran limited visiting Saint Martin’s to just one shot in taking a 5-0 men’s soccer victory on Monday afternoon at the PLU field.

With the victory, their fourth straight shutout, the Lutes improve their record to 4-4. Saint Martin’s, a first-year program, is now 2-8 for the season.

Freshmen goalkeepers Daniel Mangum and Brian Kostol split the 90 minutes in net for the Lutes, and neither had to make a save as the Saints were limited to one second half shot. Meanwhile, the PLU offense was pounding 19 total shots at the Saints, including 11 shots on goal.

Ryan Hanna, who scored his first collegiate goal on Saturday, scored twice more against the Saints. He scored the second goal at 28:01 on an assist from Michael Ferguson, and got the final score at 77:55 on a feed from Daniele Zaccagnini.

Ferguson scored a pair of goals to improve his team-leading tally to six. He put the Lutes on the board at 6:50, running onto a pass from Brennan Brown, racing past the defense and hitting the ball past goalkeeper Zac Lubin. Ferguson scored the team’s fourth goal at 70:54, again getting in behind the defense to Thomas Pederson’s long pass and knocking the ball into the net.

PLU’s other goal, the third of the match, came from Jake Taylor-Mosquera, with Hanna picking up the assist.

Pacific Lutheran returns to action this Saturday, hosting Whitworth in a Northwest Conference match starting at 2:30 p.m. Whitworth currently leads the NWC with a 4-0 mark, while the Lutes are 2-0 in the conference.
