TRACK & FIELD: Hacker and Faven Hit
NCAA Provisional Marks
THIS WEEK: Pacific Lutheran will have a bye this
week followed by the Charles Bowles Invitational, which is hosted
by Willamette University.
NCAA PROVISIONAL MARKS: Juniors Taylor Hacker
and Faven Araya both hit Division III NCAA provisional marks this
past weekend. Hacker’s toss of 167-10 in the hammer throw
easily surpassed the NCAA provisional mark of 150-11 and was a lifetime
best. The Gig Harbor native moved into the number three spot on
the Lutes' all-time top 25 list. Araya won the 400-meter hurdles
in a time of 63.90, also hitting the provisional mark. Both Hacker
and Araya competed at the Division III national meet last season.
JOE PAYTON: Juniors Taylor Hacker and Faven Araya
provided the Pacific Lutheran highlights at the Joe Peyton Invitational
held this afternoon and hosted by the University of Puget Sound.
The Lute women finished fourth out of seven teams. Seattle Pacific
won with 158 points followed by Western Washington with 152, Central
Washington 128, PLU 92, Seattle U. 84.5, Puget Sound 68.5 and Saint
Martin's 35. Other notable performances on the women’s side
including freshman Lakia Arceneaux in the 200-meter dash, running
a NWC qualifying time of 26.50. Arceneaux teamed up with Araya,
Amy Lebrun and Lynette Millard to post an impressive time of 49.78
in the 4x100-meter relay. The team finished second behind Western
Washington. In the distance event, Michele Hegg finished fourth
overall in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:01.74. Lauren McDonald
and Jillian Bartling both hit qualifying marks in the 5000-meter
run, finishing in 19:14.61 and 19:18.12, respectively. The PLU men
placed fifth in the seven-team event. Western Washington scored
192, followed by Central Washington with 156, Puget Sound 119, Seattle
U. 106, PLU 51, Saint Martin's 49 and Seattle Pacific 35. Luke Weinbrecht
was one of two PLU men to qualify for the Northwest Conference championships
meet this afternoon. Weinbrecht ran 11.37 in the 100-meter dash
and followed that qualifying mark by running a 58.20 in the 400-meter
hurdles. Jeff Nielsen was last Lute to hit a NWC qualifying mark
with a 42-06 1/4 effort in the shot put. Nielsen also made the conference
meet in the hammer with a toss of 130-06.
NWC QUALIFIERS: In the first two meets PLU has
had 14 athletes hit qualifying marks for the Northwest Conference
Championships. George Fox hosts the NWC Championship on April 18-19.
The following athletes have already punched their ticket for the
conference meet.
