PLU Falls as McKinsey Scores Winner Against Former Team

Box Score

PARKLAND, Wash. – Jenny McKinsey came back to haunt her old team, scoring the only goal of the match as George Fox defeated Pacific Lutheran, 1-0, in a Northwest Conference women’s soccer match played Saturday at the PLU field.

As a freshman, McKinsey had led the 2006 PLU team in scoring with nine goals. She transferred to George Fox during the summer and came back to haunt her former team. The sophomore forward scored the winning goal with 4:05 remaining in the match when she took a pass from Amber Stevens, made a crossover move to beat a defender, and then hit a right-footed shot into the net. For McKinsey, it was her team-leading fourth goal of the season for the Bruins, who improved to 4-1 overall and to 2-0 in the conference.

Until McKinsey’s heroics, it seemed likely that the match would go into extra time. PLU junior goalkeeper Amanda Tschauner recorded six saves and George Fox keeper Jessica Cardwell notched three to keep zeros on the scoreboard for almost the entire match. Neither keeper was seriously challenged, however, so it took McKinsey to break the deadlock.

George Fox finished with a 12-6 shot advantage and it also had nine corner kicks to just two for Pacific Lutheran, which fell to 1-3-1 overall and to 0-1 in conference play.

The Lutes return to action at noon on Sunday when they face Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Ore.
