Short-Handed Lutes Defeat Lewis & Clark in Women’s Soccer

Brittney Bronson - scores match-winning goal

Box Score

PORTLAND, Ore. – Pacific Lutheran, playing without three starters because of injuries, scored two first half goals and made them stand up in a 2-1 Northwest Conference women’s soccer victory over host Lewis & Clark on Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore forward Monica Beard scored her first goal of the season at 10:52, and freshman forward Brittney Bronson netted her first collegiate goal at 36:23 to put the Lutes ahead, 2-0. Both of the goals were unassisted.

Lewis & Clark got one back at 41:40 on Stephanie Thurin’s goal, but the PLU defense was up to the task for the remainder of the game, limiting the host Pioneers to only seven shots in the contest. Lute goalkeeper Amanda Tschauner made one save to pick up the win.

PLU also managed just seven shots during the match, but they put five of them on goal, forcing Pioneers keeper Nora Germano to make three saves.

With the victory, the Lutes improve their overall record to 2-3-1 and their conference record to 2-2. Lewis & Clark is now 0-3-1 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
