Linfield’s Overtime Goal Sinks Pacific
Lutheran, 1-0
Box Score
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Sara Blake took advantage of a
mistake in the Pacific Lutheran defense to score the only goal as
the visiting Linfield Wildcats defeated the host Lutes, 1-0 in overtime,
in a Northwest Conference women’s soccer match played Sunday
at Curtis High School.
Blake was in the right spot when PLU goalkeeper Amanda Tschauner
came out to grab Lian Yuen’s long ball into the box. Tschauner,
seeing a line on the field and thinking she was outside the penalty
box, instead let the ball bounce, and Blake came in behind and scored
the game winner. Unfortunately for the Lutes, Tschauner saw a line
for the football field and mistook it for the penalty box.
Blake’s goal, which came 5:07 into overtime, ended a match
that featured few really good scoring chances for either team. Linfield
was on target with eight of its shots, but Tschauner had little
trouble in making seven saves. Pacific Lutheran managed only six
shots the entire match, and Kelsey Hasselblad came up with four
saves for the Wildcats. She made the best save of the match in the
first half, however, when she tipped Amanda Crawford’s left-footed
drive off of and over the crossbar.
With the victory, the Wildcats improve to 4-4-0 in the conference
and 5-5-1 overall. Pacific Lutheran is now 1-6-1 in the NWC and
2-8-2 overall.
