Pacific Lutheran women's soccer has
a great tradition of regional and national success.
The Lutes appeared in five NAIA national tournaments,
winning championships in 1988, 1989 and 1991, and
finishing as runner-up in 1990 and 1992. Pacific
Lutheran teams have won 10 Northwest Conference
crowns since 1981.
In the first 15 years of the program,
Pacific Lutheran women's soccer teams compiled a
phenomenal 233-59-18 record (.781 winning percentage)
under head coach Colleen Hacker, who later served
as assistant coach with an emphasis on sports psychology
for the U.S. women's national soccer team.
More recently, Pacific Lutheran has
been ranked among the best in the Northwest Conference,
one of the toughest in NCAA Division III women's
soccer. The goal is to compete on an annual basis
for the conference crown and with it a berth in
the Division III national playoffs.
Starting with the 2007 season, Lynnette
Buffington returned to her native Tacoma as the
fourth head coach in Pacific Lutheran women’s
soccer annals. In four seasons at Villa Julie College
in Maryland, Buffington led her team to three conference
championship match appearances, two conference titles
and one NCAA Division III postseason appearance.
