School of Business Launches New MBA Program
In the spring of 2006 the PLU faculty passed a new and innovative MBA curriculum to be launched this coming fall.  The new program continues to be a part-time evening program but can be completed in just 20-22 months (rather than 24) and includes a 10-day international experience opportunity for all MBA students.  Another new feature of the MBA program is the addition of two areas of emphasis.  The program continues to offer an emphasis in Technology & Innovation Management, but now students can also pursue an emphasis in Entrepreneurship & Closely Held Business or Health Care Management. The program is founded on the cornerstones of leadership, innovation, global awareness and ethical responsibility.  Check out the MBA website.

PLU Senior Lobbys Congress
On May 17th PLU senior Brad Lubken spoke to members of congress in Washington D.C as a representative of the Lance Armstrong Foundation’s Livestrong Day.  The Lance Armstrong Foundation has declared May 17th Livestrong Day, a day devoted to raising awareness of and bring attention to “an issue that impacts all Americans--cancer.”  Lubken was one of two representatives from the state of Washington who spoke to the state’s delegates about the importance of funding for cancer research as he himself is a cancer survivor. On July 30, 2004, Lubken was diagnosed with late stage-two testicular cancer. The cancer had spread to other areas of his body including his abdomen and hip. After four rounds of chemotherapy and major surgery, Lubken’s cancer was gone. He has been in remission since October 2004. His experience with cancer has prompted him to participate in raising community awareness through events such as the recent Relay for Life. He has spoken to high school health classes and is currently writing a book about his experiences. During the summer of 2005, Lubken also spent time working with the Lance Armstrong Foundation in Austin, Texas.

School of Business Receives Podcasting Grant
The School of Business recently received a $1,000 grant from the 2nd Annual Small Grants Program for Integration Information Services and Technologies into the Curriculum.  The grant will be used to purchase podcasting equipment needed to record class lectures and presentations by guest speakers.  Initially, the MBA program will utilize this equipment so that MBA students can download audio of lectures and presentations onto their computers or MP3 players.  The School of Business hopes to expand podcasting to include presentations for undergraduate students as well.
