Renting a Vehicle at PLU
PLU Campus Safety provides the service of renting passenger cars and vans to the PLU community for purposes related to PLU business or other official activities. The general requirements to rent and drive a vehicle are:

All drivers must have a valid U.S. driver’s license.

All drivers must pass the on-line driver certification training. (follow the link to the left.)

When you pass you will be issued a PLU Driver's Certification Card from Campus Safety. You can usually pick the card up two business days after you pass the training.

In order to drive a vehicle rented through a rental car agency all drivers must be at least 21 years old.

Drivers of the PLU vans do not need to be 21 years old as long as the first two requirements listed above are met.

PLU sponsored clubs and organizations must provide to Campus Safety, along with a reservation request and completed itinerary form, available on the Student Involvment and Leadership website.
PLU Owned Vans
You may rent one of four, 12-passenger, PLU owned vans at a rate of $15.00 per day and $.67 per mile. None have these vans has roof racks. The following rules apply to renting the PLU vans:
Cancellation Policy and Fees for PLU owned vans:

Less than 48 hours notice: $15 cancellation charge

Less than 24 hours notice: $30 “ “

Cancellation fees are waived for weather related cancellations of PLU sponsored events.

Refueling during travel is the responsibility of the user. During the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on regular business days, (M - F) the gas pump located at Facilities may be used to fuel to PLU owned vans. A department account code will be required at the time of fueling. For those groups who do not have access to a PLU Corporate Card or have a special need, there are a limited number of PLU owned gas cards available. Make sure you ask for one at the time of the rental pick up.
The PLU vans are offered on a first come-first served basis. If they are unavailable or if you wish to rent another type of car or mini van PLU has a contract with Budget Car Rentals offering the following rates:

** $114 per day for one day rentals on a Tuesday or Wednesday.
There is no mileage charge for these rentals UNLESS you pick the vehicle up from one location and return it to another. Example: You pick up the car at PLU but return it in Portland, OR. In that case you will be charged $ .45 per mile driven.
Other details:

Only 12-passenger or smaller vans/vehicles are allowed for PLU related business/academics/activity.

Cargo/baggage may be stored/loaded under the seat.

Seats in vans/vehicles may not be removed at any time.

Cancellations: Cancellation fees are charged in the event that a rental company vehicle is delivered prior to the notice of cancellation being received by Campus Safety. In this case there is a $30.00 drop-off and pick-up fee.

Vehicle Reservation requests may be made online here.
Please submit a reservation request as far in advance as possible. Reservations are on a first come, first served basis. A confirmation e-mail is normally sent within 24 hours or the next business day.
PLEASE READ THIS - IMPORTANT
All drivers of PLU owned or rented vehicles must be certified through the driver certification program prior to driving. Don't make the mistake as some do of showing up to get your vehicle without your PLU Driving Certification Card. Cards are valid for two years. If you cannot find your card and are unsure whether you need to renew it please call Jennifer Thompson at 535-7441 (x 7441) during regular business hours to check.
