Career Planning

Embark on your career journey!

Career Development is a process and takes place over the four years students attend PLU. Well, actually it is a lifelong process, but your time at PLU is when we can help!

All of the experiences you have — both inside and outside the classroom — can guide the direction your career path will take. PLU’s Career Development office staff is here to support you on your career journey.  However, you don’t need to wait until the office is open to get started! Access our Virtual Career Center 24/7 to embark on your career exploration and planning.  Each stage of your journey has its own questions and we have the tools to help you choose the best path for you.

Student Employment

Finding a job during college can be a daunting process, especially for new students. We work with current degree-seeking students to assist them in their employment endeavors and answer questions about work study or finding a job. To browse current jobs for students, please visit the Career Connections Opportunities Board.

Who am I?
Reflecting on your strengths, interests, values, and personality characteristics is the first part of the journey. Being able to articulate these things is essential. We have several assessment tools that can begin to help you with your self-exploration.

What are my options?
Have you decided on a major? Or what occupations might be of interest to you? Which employers would be a good match for you? These are big questions and we have a lot of resources to help you find the information you need to find the answers — or at least to narrow down your options to make choosing a path more manageable.

How do I decide?

Studying the options is only one way to look at a possible career, you have to get out there and gain experience.  We can help you with strategies and resources that will connect you to the areas you want to explore and try out.

How do I get hired?
We are committed to helping you as you transition from backpack to briefcase. We can assist you in translating your experiences as a student into the language of professional work through your resumes, cover letters, and interview skills.  All of this combined with opportunities to connect with employers will help you begin the next phase of your professional journey.
