Personality Style & Interests

How do my personality style preferences impact my career direction and choice of a major?

How do I find out what majors, careers or occupations  correlate to my personal interests?

It’s very helpful to be aware of your personality style and interests and which careers, occupations and majors are seen as a match.  There are a variety of ways to find out this information:

Focus2

FOCUS-2 is an on-line, interactive education and career planning system that combines self assessment, major and career exploration, and decision making into one comprehensive program. FOCUS-2 will help you clarify your strengths, interests, and professional goals so you will be better equipped to identify potential majors and minors, to create an academic plan, and to map out a basic career path. Go to the Virtual Career Center for instructions on creating your Focus profile and get started!

MBTIMBTI Personality Style Preference (MBTI)

MBTI is the world's most used indicator of adult personality patterns. Based on the theories of Carl Jung, it describes 16 different preferred styles of dealing with the world. The MBTI is extensively researched, non-judgmental and easily understood. To take the MBTI, contact Career Development at 535-7459 to set up an appointment with a career counselor. If you are taking the MBTI, go to the Skills One website and log in with the information you were given by the Career Counselor.

SIIStrong Interest Inventory (SII)

The profile can help a person to organize interests into patterns. It measures interests not aptitude or intelligence, and it can assist individuals in making curricular or occupational choices.  To take the SII, contact Career Development at 535-7459 to set up an appointment with a career counselor. If you are taking the SII, go to the Skills One website and log in with the information you were given by the Career Counselor.
