Biography
Joanne M. Lisosky was a practicing radio, television and print journalist when she shifted careers and opted to instruct others how to tell good stories. During her time at PLU, she has advised the student newspaper and the award-winning student chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
Lisosky has also taken her teaching on the road by leading more than 120 students on communication study abroad courses to Australia, Switzerland and Uganda. She has served as an freelance journalist at the UN in Geneva, an academic consultant to UNESCO in Nairobi and was honored with a Fulbright Senior Specialist Award to teach journalism in Kampala, Uganda in 2003.
Her article about freedom of expression at private universities won the research award at the College Media Advisers in 2010. She is currently completing a book on the protection of journalists in conflict zones and will serve her second Fulbright Award teaching journalism in Baku, Azerbaijan in Spring 2011.
Not surprising, her favorite movie about journalism is Alfred Hitchcock’s “Foreign Correspondent.”
