The Artistic Achievement Awards offered through the Department of Communication & Theatre are in: Dance, Forensics (Speech & Debate), and Theatre (Acting and Technical).
Dance at Pacific Lutheran University provides opportunities in performance, creative activity, composition, choreography, dance history, dance production, dance technique, movement for actors, yoga, ballroom, and healing arts of mind and body. We have two venues for dance performance: Dance Ensemble and Dance Team. Student choreography is emphasized with special guest and faculty choreographers. We offer a Dance minor in the Department of Communication & Theatre, School of Arts and Communication. Courses are cross-referenced with Physical Education/Movement Studies.

Our Forensic team has a long history of intercollegiate forensics competition. Regionally, nationally and internationally active, our students participate in a variety of public speaking events, interpretive reading events and debate. On average, the program attends 15 tournaments per year and hosts three on PLU's campus, including one of the largest high school tournaments in the Northwest.

Theatre at Pacific Lutheran University provides many artistic and technical opportunities. The program is housed in the new Karen Hille Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, which includes our new Studio Theater, Mainstage (under restoration during the 2012-13 school year) and state-of-the-art scene shop. In addition to the four Mainstage productions, there are many additional opportunities to participate: Studio Theater, Night of Musical Theatre, A Weekend of One Acts, Dance Concerts, student theatre clubs, Directing Class scenes, annual Opera Workshop, as well as scenes done in class, and new scenes prepared by enthusiastic students.
