FAQS

Partner Congregations

We consider ourselves a “donor congregation” because we contribute each year to QCLUB and/or participate in the PLUMS program. Do we have to sign up to be a partner congregation?
A. Yes!  It is crucial that each interested congregation return the form (available online here).  This provides us with important contact information and enables us to provide you with updated information on various benefits including the confirmation scholarship available to youth who are members of a Partner Congregation.
What is the Confirmation Scholarship?
A. This is a $1,000 scholarship (renewable for up to four years) that is pledged to each Lutheran confirmand who is accepted and who enrolls at PLU.
Who benefits from the scholarship program?
A. This is a win-win situation.  The student and parent(s) obviously benefit from this promise of financial aid.  PLU benefits because we believe it will encourage more Lutheran youth to seriously consider attending this university of the church.
When is the scholarship normally presented to our confirmands?
A. A scholarship certificate will be prepared by PLU for each confirmand to be presented to them at the Affirmation of Baptism Service as a gift from the university.  We ask that pastors provide PLU with a confirmation roster and individual student information sheets at least one month prior to the service to give us time to prepare the certificates.
Are youth in the congregation who have already been confirmed eligible for the confirmation scholarship?
A. Yes!  This benefit is retroactive and available to all high school students who have already been confirmed in a Partner Congregation.  We do, however, need to have a completed application from each student no later than their high school graduation date. It is preferred to have this application by January 1st of their senior year in high school.
Are current PLU students who are members of a Partner Congregation eligible to receive a confirmation scholarship?
A. No. Unfortunately, this scholarship must be applied for before one enrolls at PLU.
Does the Confirmation Scholarship program replace the PLUMS program?
A. No. This is an added benefit for our Lutheran youth.  Congregations are still urged to participate in the matching PLUMS program that provides additional financial assistance to their students.
