“Why Do I React and You Don't?”

Navigating Triggering Events  - With Dr. Kathy Obear

February 5, 2014 – Pacific Lutheran University
Critical to building inclusive and respectful campus communities is the ability to effectively facilitate authentic dialogue.  This becomes a challenge when participants are "triggered" by the unexpected emotional reaction to the comments and actions of others.
Dr. Obear will introduce the "Triggering Event Cycle" as a framework to explore how privilege and marginalized identities  intersect during triggering events and to provide effective strategies to navigate these difficult situations.
