A Vision for PLU Baseball

It is ever more apparent that facilities play a large role in the college decision-making process.  With the weather challenges we face in the Tacoma area, it is a vital “next-step” for recruiting and the student-athlete experience that an artificial turf infield be our top priority for the future of the baseball program.

In Spring 2011 fans enjoyed the action from grandstands funded through the university. Seating for 538 in five rows from dugout to dugout, with an ADA-compliant wheelchair access ramp drastically improved the facility.

Additionally, thanks to a generous $250,000 commitment from Regent Lisa (Miles ’84) and Tim (’84) Kittilsby, PLU is closer to moving forward on improvements to the baseball field and related facilities.

This first class facility will enhance the PLU baseball program by:

  • Helping attract potential student athletes
  • Providing a venue to host NCAA Division III playoff games
  • Creating an opportunity for year-round practice and games for PLU and for community baseball teams

Plans for the field include:

  • Lights
  • Dugouts
  • Covered Batting Cages
  • Press Box
  • Sound System

To complete construction in 2013, PLU must raise an additional $25,000 with gifts and pledges from alumni, parents, friends, community members and organizations. By coming together with a shared goal of enhancing the PLU baseball experience, your contributions truly make a difference in sustaining and improving the program here at PLU.

Several naming opportunities at the facility are still available.  These range from naming the Baseball Field itself for a gift of $1.5 million to naming the batting cages for $25,000, and multiple opportunities in between. In addition, banner advertising on the outfield fence is available at annual rates.
