Majoring in Economics

At PLU, an Economics major is designed to give students an appreciation and basic understanding of a large spectrum of the field of Economics.  The following classes are integral in accomplishing this goal.  Full descriptions of these classes can be found here.

Required Courses – ALL of the following are required for a BA in Economics (total 7 courses, 28 hours).

Theory (4 courses, 16 hours): 101, 102, 301, 302
Tools (2 courses, 8 hours): STAT 231 or MATH/STAT 242; one of any CSCE, BUSA 202 or BUSA 302
Capstone (1 course, 4 hours): 499

Field Courses – required – select one course (4 hours) from each of the following three categories. All courses listed have ECON as a prefix. No substitution between categories will be allowed.
Micro (1 course, 4 hours): 313, 321, 323, 325, 331, 333
Macro (1 course, 4 hours): 322, 327, 337, 386
Approaches (1 course, 4 hours): 311, 341, 344, 345, 387 (behavioral economics)

Field Course – optional – select a fourth course from any of the three categories listed above, or from the following (total 1 course, 4 hours)
Field Experience (1 course, 4 hours): 215, 229, 235, 495
