Professional Achievements

"A favorite professional memory was when I helped to lead a reading campaign in Enumclaw for students, parents and community members to read 10 million minutes.  For six months, students and community members kept track of their reading minutes.  We had a culminating event on our high school football field.  We filled the entire stands with our community cheering for literacy as we unveiled the number of minutes we read together.  We did meet our goal!"

Core Beliefs About Education

"I believe in public education.  For me, public education is the foundation of our country.  I believe in all students and have worked diligently to develop programs and systems to support the varying needs of each individual that attends our schools.  I believe there is no more noble a career than that of an educator."

Advice to Those Considering a Career in Education

"One of my favorite all-time quotes is from former Seattle Public Schools Superintendent John Stanford, ‘The secret to success is to stay in love.’  I believe a person entering the field of education should wake up each morning with a fire and passion for working with kids, helping them to successfully achieve at their highest level.  Students recognize when a teacher has this fire and passion and I believe ultimately do their best under these conditions."

How PLU has Impacted my Career...

"I have always been proud to say that I am a PLU alumnus.  I believe this has impacted family members and students that I have mentored to attend PLU.  My nephew Jess is a graduate of the PLU education program ten years ago and is now a teacher and coach at Stadium High School.  My son Hans is a recent graduate of the PLU education program and is about to launch an incredible career as a music teacher."

"I am truly grateful for the foundation of learning that PLU gave to me in supporting my career in education.  It is a gift for which I will be forever grateful."
