Exploring Educational Resources and Partnerships, EDUC 940, 3 credits

Course Description

This class will explore and connect with educational resources in the community such as museums, environmental organizations, and cultural centers.  Each day, class will meet at a different venue to actively learn about history, art, and science; to become familiar with object based learning, visual thinking skills, teaching trunks, and place based learning; and then collaborate to develop practical classroom applications connected to the Common Core.

Participants will reach out to a heritage, art, or environmental group in their local school community to develop ideas for future partnerships.

Course Objectives

  • Discover educational resources in the community

  • Explore object based learning, service learning, teaching trunks, and place based learning

  • Collaborate to develop lessons connected to Common Core Standards

  • Develop a plan for partnership with a local community resource

  • Take away ideas, materials, lesson plans, and connections

Course Meeting Times

9 class sessions, 10am-3pm

(Tuesdays July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, Thursdays July 3, 10, 17, 24)
