One-Year Track – This is a traditional, full-time program for candidates that want to earn their master’s degree and teacher certification in a single year.
CANCELED Two-Year Track – This half-time program features night, weekend and online coursework for students that want to transition into the teaching field while still having the opportunity to work while in the program.
Alternative Routes to Certification Track – This program is designed to help professionals transfer into the teaching field with certification classes being completed in the first year, and the master’s coursework being completed after they begin work as a teacher.
Non Certification Track – This program is open to international candidates only. It will prepare the candidate to become a leader in the teaching profession without completing Washington State certification.
Course Schedule:
Classes are typically Monday-Thursday all day during the summer, in the afternoons four days a week in the fall, and one night a week during the spring.

Financial Aid and Scholarships:
PLU provides many opportunities to candidates to help them pay for their education. To apply for federal financial aid please fill out the FAFSA application. PLU also offers opportunities for more aid through scholarships, fellowships and a 10% discount to all alumni!The priority deadline for all scholarship and fellowship applications is January 15th. Any applications submitted after that will be considered only if funds are still available. Click here for information about the Excellence in Education Graduate Scholarship.
Admissions:
Admission to the program is done on a rolling basis. We have three priority deadlines that we encourage students to use:November 15th
January 15th *Last priority deadline for scholarships and fellowships*
March 8th
We will continue to accept application through May 15th, however we will give priority to applications received by the deadlines.

Also please remember that any student that wants to enter a teacher preparation program in Washington State needs to pass all three sections of the Washington Educator Skills Test – Basic (WEST-B) before entering a program. Endorsements
Candidates in the Master of Arts in Education One-Year program at PLU have the opportunity to pursue any of the 24 endorsements listed here.PLU follows a WEST-E Plus policy. All candidates must pass the Washington Educator Skills Test – Endorsement (WEST-E) in the subject area they wish to teach. For more information on the test please click here.
Any candidate pursuing an endorsement in foreign language must pass the ACTFL exam. For more information please see their website.
PLU also requires candidates to have relevant experience in their endorsement area. Once a candidate applies to the program all prior coursework will be reviewed to determine if the candidate is missing significant content. Candidates also have the opportunity to submit life experience for these requirements. For questions about this policy, the WEST-E, or ACTFL please feel free to contact our office.
Two-Year Track - the two year track has been canceled until further notice
This half-time program features night, weekend and online coursework for students that want to transition into the teaching field while still having the opportunity to work while in the program. Candidates will complete their coursework in the first year and a half, while also having a limited field experience, and will complete a full-time student teaching experience in their last semester.

Alternative Routes to Certification Track
This program is designed to help professionals transfer into the teaching field with certification classes being completed in the first year, and the master’s coursework being completed after they begin work as a teacher. Candidates have focused coursework and are paired with a mentor teacher and a supervisor to guide them in the field. This program is open ended with most students completing the certification requirements between February and April. Candidates may only pursue secondary endorsements in this program.

Costs:
The Master of Arts in Education – Alternative Routes to Certification(ARC) program is 19 credits for the initial certification and 17 credits to complete the master’s degree. For a breakdown of costs please see the appropriate cost sheet here.Financial Aid and Scholarships:
