“Writing is important to any job Even when e-mailing people, writing is important. And the liberal arts emphasis at PLU really helps you think deeply and analytically about things.” - Tracy Goldner, 04, Minor in Publishing and Printing

Business Degree Helped Her Get Her First Job. But Her Publishing Minor Landed this Graduate the Job She Really Wanted.

Despite her love of writing, Tracey Goldner first entered PLU on the biology track.

But eventually, she switched to a business major, with a minor in communications and printing.

When she graduated, she worked for Nike, wrote for the company’s sales magazine, and then decided to consider working at a non-profit, and eventually began working for Medical Teams International in Portland in 2006.

Goldner, ’04, feels that the associate writing position she has for MTI has been helped by the liberal arts education she received at PLU.

“Writing is important to any job,” she said. “Even when e-mailing people, writing is important. And the liberal arts emphasis at PLU really helps you think deeply and analytically about things.”

Her business degree might have helped in landing Goldner her first job, she said. But it was her publishing degree that helped her get the job she wanted at Medical Teams International.
