Chase Averill '07
Home Town: Bigfork, Mont.
Major: Business
Chase Averill ’07 grew up in the small town of Bigfork, Mont., so he knows a little something about the importance of small classes – his high school graduating class was 80 students. So when he started looking at colleges, there was a certain attraction to PLU. “I wanted to go away for college – someplace smaller, someplace located in a beautiful area,” he said. At the same time, he wanted a large selection of classes and high-caliber professors – things often typically associated with larger universities. “The academic reputation was really important,” he said, “But I also wanted to go to a place where you really get to know the professors.”
So far, he’s found all that. A tight end on the football team who recently spent J-Term studying Caribbean culture as part of PLU’s study away program, Chase plans to get his degree from the nationally accredited School of Business, one of five professional schools at PLU. The professors, he has found, have offered exactly what he was looking for – expertise, especially as it relates to global business issues, and a passion for teaching. “It is really important to have professors with real experience in the world,” he said. “There is so much to learn from them.”
