Mark Gould ’91 sees himself as something of a rarity these days. After graduating from PLU with a degree in economics, he took a job as an analyst – and he’s been at the same company ever since. Mark is now Seattle branch manager and senior vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.

As he looks back on his days at PLU, Mark thinks about his four-year university experience and how it helped him in the job he has now. He minored in philosophy – “because I like to argue,” he said with a grin – was active in the Residence Hall Council, and gained valuable work experience (and an appreciation for jazz) at KPLU, the university’s National Public Radio affiliate. For Mark, all this was a perfect fit. “The mix of curriculum at PLU provided me with the core job skills I needed,” he said, “but more importantly my professors challenged me to think, reason, question and communicate. At the end of the day, these are the most important and timeless skills you can take from an undergraduate education, and this is why a PLU education will help differentiate you from the pack after graduation.”
