As a member of the varsity swim team, Emma Coulson spends much of her time in PLU’s swimming pool.

Home Town: Colorado Springs, Colo.
Involvement: Residence hall council, Red carpet club, Student athlete advisory committee

Emma Coulson ’07 knew PLU was the place for her the moment she set foot on campus. “When I visited, I just knew,” she said. “That doesn’t happen to everybody, I realize. But for me, I just knew this is where I belong.”

Ever since, she’s been making sure she belongs – and given all there is to do on campus, that’s not too hard. A native of Colorado Springs, Colo., she’s been a member of the Residence Hall Council, Red Carpet Club and Student Athlete Advisory Committee – all while holding down a full slate of classes and, during the season, heading to the pool for two-a-day practices with the PLU swim team. Next year, she plans to be a Resident Assistant in Ordal Hall, one of ten on-campus residence halls. When she was a first-year student, Emma had a great experience with her own RA. “The community she built was awesome,” she said, “those are relationships that will last my entire life.”

So, did PLU live up to the expectations she had when she first visited campus? “Absolutely,” Emma said. “It is all about the community here – and I want to take in as much of it as I can. These are four years that aren’t like any other.”
