Health Center

Access to Care

How much will it cost?

Many services at the Health Center are provided at no cost. There is no fee for most visits. You will be charged for laboratory tests, immunizations, medications, and physicals. You can pay with a check or cash, pay with a credit card at the cashier’s office, or charge the cost to your student account. If you have health insurance the cost may be covered by your insurance plan. For students with PLU insurance ask for assistance in filing forms for reimbursement. If you are covered under another insurance plan you will be provided with a receipt for services that you can submit for reimbursement. Find out more

To schedule and appointment….

If your healthcare need is not urgent, schedule a regular appointment in advance by calling 253-535-7337. Regular appointments are made for ongoing concerns such as headaches, skin problems, allergies, sleep problems, and back pain, as well as birth control initiation, STI testing, and medication refills.

If you have an acute illness or recent injury call 253-535-7337 to be evaluated for a same day appointment. You are encouraged to schedule an appointment rather than “walk-in” to save yourself time and frustration. If you want advice about whether or not, and how soon you should be seen call to speak with a provider.

Physical exams and travel consultations need to be scheduled in advance. You should bring any special forms you need completed with you.

When you make an appointment, tell us what your needs and concerns are so we can schedule appropriately.

Please do not use email to schedule an appointment.

To make the most of your appointment….

Think about your concerns. Tell the provider when the problem began, how it has progressed, and what changes have occurred. If you have a concern you think is silly or irrational don’t be afraid to voice it.

Be prepared to answer questions about your health history, medications, allergies and habits. We routinely ask women about their menstrual periods and if they may be pregnant to ensure that any medical care will not cause any unexpected risks.

Ask questions freely about everything including your diagnosis, when to expect improvement, treatment options, lab tests, side effects from medications, follow-up care or any other concerns. If you feel you have not been heard, say so.

You are welcome to bring along someone to provide moral support, but remember that we want to hear from you what your concerns and thoughts are, so supporters need to be relatively silent.
