Web siteVirus protection for university and personally-owned computers of PLU students, faculty, and staff.
Anti-virus ProtectionAnyone who uses a computer on the PLU campus network shares responsibility for protecting network services for others. PLU requires that a reliable anti-virus program be installed on any computer connected to the PLU network. Anti-virus protection is installed on all university-owned computers. For personal computers, you can use paid or free anti-virus software. If you're not sure where to start, I&TS staff provide a list of recommended free anti-virus software. Once the anti-virus software is installed, it is critical that you perform regular updates. More information on anti-virus programs is available at

helpdesk@plu.eduAssistance and instruction provided for backing up University data.
BackupsData stored on your computer should be backed up periodically in the event of a computer failure. Copies of files can be stored on a secondary source such as a central server, portable hard drive or pen drive for use if the original files are lost or damaged. Restoring a file from a backup is often preferable to re-creating a file from scratch. User Support can provide information on the backup options that are available and help determine the best backup approach for your needs.Assistance and instruction provided for backing up University data.User Services

University owned computers are repaired as needed through the Help Desk. Funding for repairs is typically covered when the computer is under warranty. When the warranty expires, repairs are often still made but may be funded by individual departments if sufficient funds are not available.
Personally owned computers: The Help Desk provides limited troubleshooting for software problems on personally owned computers. Hardware related problems can be diagnosed, but are often referred back to the vendor or another repair shop. Availability of this service is limited by space and time available. Individuals with computers that are still covered under warranty should first contact the vendor before having the Help Desk work on any hardware-related problems.Repair of university and personally-owned computers and computer equipment.User Services

Windows Domain AccountsWindows computers on campus generally connect to the network using a domain account and require a username and password login. Most of the logins on campus use the ePass username and password. When you log on to a campus computer, your ePass information is verified in order to provide you with a specific set of network permissions relative to your needs. These Windows accounts are created when a student or employee creates the ePass account.
