Academic Internship Office

Follow-up

If the time passes after the interview when you expect to have heard from the employer about their selection, you should call them and ask simply if they have made a decision, and if not, where they are in the process. Restate your interest in the position and one or two factors that make you a good hire for the job. Get a new date for their decision. If circumstances have changed and they are not sure at this time when the decision will be made, offer to call again in a couple of weeks.

If you were not offered the position, but were one of the top candidates, let the employer know that you are still interested should a suitable position become available and then keep in contact periodically. When another opening occurs that you are qualified for, you want them to remember you.
