International Admission

Known internationally for having diverse academic programs and personal interaction with professors, PLU has more than 3,600 students and 250 faculty (a 15:1 ratio). Each year more than 150 international students come to PLU to continue their study. At PLU, fellow students become both friends and collaborators; professors become both teachers and mentors. More »

What types of International Student are you classified as?

Based upon your English proficiency, you are identified as either transition student or matriculated student.

  • Transition Students are international students who do not have required English proficiency score (TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE). Transition students may be conditionally admitted to PLU by applying directly with Admission Department or through the Study Group, a PLU affiliated ESL provider. In order to enroll in university level classes, transition students are required to attend and successfully complete the English as Second Language (ESL) program.
  • Matriculated Students are international students who met the English requirement by PLU admission with adequate TOEFL or IELTS scores. Matriculated students can be freshmen, transfer, graduate or exchange students who are degree seeking or non-degree seeking. Upon being admitted to PLU, matriculated students can register and attend regular university level classes for major or General University Requirement (GUR) classes.
