Sick and Wrong: Notions and Representations of the Deviant, the Deranged and the Disturbed
| May 7, 2008 - 3:40 PM | Morken Center, Room 103 |
The Department of Languages and Literatures is pleased to sponsor presentations exploring less-than-healthy aspects of cultural discourse. What do representations of behavior, speech, relationships, and activities deemed “unhealthy” or “over the line” tell us about the cultural discourses and in which these representations have been framed? Moreover, what do they tell us about the ways that notions of what is “sick” or “wrong” have functioned as demarcations around which control and resistance forge new cultural identities? Presentations included: Wednesday, May 7, 3:40-6:00 Morken 103: “Coping with Conformity to a Sick World” Wednesday, May 14, 3:40-6:00 Morken 103: “Representations of the Sick and Wrong” Thursday, May 15, 4:00-6:00 Morken 103: “The Sick Speak”
