Students' Passions Lead Them to the Spanish Language, and Bilingual Careers

“I intended to be a  biology major, and I kept thinking I wanted to go to med school. But Spanish was always something I was passionate about. I absolutely love the language. I guess I’m a grammar nerd.

“I continued with my Spanish classes from high school at PLU, and decided that I didn’t want to follow the biology path. I will be working with the Lutheran Volunteer Corps next year and specifically with an organization called La Raza Centro Legal in the position of Job Development coordinator.

"I hope to be working with the Spanish-speaking immigrants and work in advocacy and the public policy realm."

“Having a second language opens a lot of doors and it’s a great skill to have.”

"When I was in high school, I traveled to Costa Rica as an exchange student, and just loved the community and people.  "I took three (Spanish) classes at PLU and quickly realized a Spanish major was an incredible opportunity.

It provides an opportunity both for language skills but also you learn about literature. I’m a literature lover as well. I’d like to work somewhere in the communications field, and tie Spanish in with that.”
