Mortvedt Library is currently showing art works by Shawn Foote who is a graduate student at Pacific Lutheran University. His works displayed on the second floor are entitled “Fringe Physics”. Here are Shawn’s comments about how the idea for these pieces came to be.

“As a teacher I hope to inspire all my students to become self motivated life long learners. Art has always been a passion for me and continuing my education is another component that underscores my existence. As one who loves to learn, physics has naturally become an area where I frequently dabble. In exploring the deeper levels of modern physics I have come to its boundaries and realized its inherent limitations. I have found the pillars upon which its so-called laws are made and have decided to destroy them, going further into the unexplored realms of “Fringe Physics”. It is here on this shifting event horizon where I find true inspiration, a space where everything collides with nothing, where time and space become equally malleable and where true creation begins.”
