New Additions to Mortvedt Library's Lehmann African Art Collection11-07-2007Bongo wood male funerary effigy, Sudan An important recent addition to the Mortvedt Library’s Lehmann African Art Collection was received from Dr. Oliver Cobb and his wife Pamela of Seattle. Dr. Cobb is well known among African art specialists as being one of the premier collectors in the Northwest. The addition of this piece, a bongo male funerary effigy from Sudan, will significantly enhance the Lehmann Collection, which is recognized as one of the most important and valuable collections of African art in the Pacific Northwest. In addition Dr. Cobb also donated two masks, a bete wood face mask from the Ivory Coast and a makonde wood male helmet mask, while visiting on campus last month. |
