For assistance in obtaining the best information on a topic or designing effective research strategies, contact the reference desk on the main level of the library.

This department’s collections are available for student research and
includes four collections: University Archives, Scandinavian Immigrant Experience
Collection, Nisqually Plains Collection, Evangelical Lutheran Church Archives.
Archives
The collection provides information on the history of the Lutheran
church in the Pacific Northwest from the 1880's to the present; on
pastors and other who have been and
are connected to the Lutheran Church, on congregational histories, on
educational and charitable institutions and organizations.
ELCA Region I Archives
The Nisqually Plains Collection records the local history of the Northwest
and Parkland history, and the Tacoma Longshoreman's Union.
Nisqually Plains Collection
The Scandinavian Immigrant Experience Collection brings together books, manuscripts,
oral histories, and photographs relating to Scandinavian immigrants, particularly
in the Pacific Northwest.
Scandinavian Immigrant Experience Collection
The Archives serves as the final repository for the historical records of
Pacific Lutheran University. Its primary purpose is to collect, describe,
preserve, and give access to the permanent records created by the university's
departments and offices. The collection provides information on the University's
teaching, research and special programs; faculty, administrators, and alumni;
campus buildings and development; and student life.

Get books/articles that the PLU library does not have.
If you need a book, article, or other research resources that is not at PLU, the library will try to obtain it for you from another library through interlibrary loan.
Through the library's Librarian Live service, you can get help with research while you’re online (hours of service).
After connecting to Librarian
Live, type in your research questions and a librarian will chat with you.
If the answer can be found on a specific web page or web site, the librarian can send you the site, or they can guide you through one of the many databases that PLU has access to over the web. Web pages and other electronic resources will open in a separate browser on your computer's desktop.
You don't need any special software, just access to the web from any web browser.

You'll need your Lute Card to check out resources from the library. You'll also need a barcode attached to your LuteCard--together this becomes your Library Card. Obtain your barcode at the Library Circulation Desk.
