The PLU LuteFit Committee promotes a climate of wellness in which students, staff, and faculty may become engaged in healthy behaviors. We provide resources and education related to the dimensions of cultural, emotional, intellectual, physical, social, spiritual and vocational wellness.
Halbert L. Dunn, a U.S. doctor, began using the phrase high level wellness in the 1950s, and defined wellness as "an integrated method of functioning which is oriented toward maximizing the potential of which the individual is capable. It requires that the individual maintain a continuum of balance and purposeful direction within the environment where he is functioning." He also stated that: "Wellness is a direction in progress toward an ever-higher potential of functioning."
The Wellness Wheel is a metaphorical model that offers an integrated overview of human life. The harmonious balance of these life functions results in good health and wellbeing. Like a wheel, if components of the wheel are missing, one's life cannot run as effectively.
The LuteFit Committee is made up of of Faculty, Staff and Students who are interested in the overall wellness of the PLU Community. We meet weekly on Wednesday at 1:30pm in UC 171.
If you would like to join the committee, please contact Amber Dehne at 253-535-8260 or e-mail lutefit@plu.edu for more information.
