TACOMA, Wash. (Nov. 11, 2014)—Join Pacific Lutheran University and the Parkland-Spanaway community for the 2014 Winterfest, which brings together low-income families in the community and connects them with holiday gifts and basic resources. Winterfest banner

Located at PLU’s East Campus, Winterfest includes children’s festivities such as face painting, crafts, refreshments and a visit with Santa. While children take part in the holiday activities, parents will have the opportunity to choose gifts for their children, along with winter coats, clothing and personal hygiene items.

The Winterfest event will take place on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., but PLU students and staff, as well as local businesses and community members, can donate items to support the needs of those in the community up until Dec. 12.

Donations of new toys, coats, winter gear and cash or checks are encouraged and appreciated. For a full list of acceptable donations and directions on making a tax-deductible monetary donation, click here. There are several community sites to drop off donations, including LeMay Family Foundation, Franklin Pierce School District headquarters, Bethel School District headquarters, Heritage Bank and Twinstar Credit Union (Parkland/Spanaway Branch), Harkness Furniture, Couples and Family Therapy at PLU and the PLU Concierge’s desk.

Winterfest organizers gratefully report volunteer signups are full, thanks to the PLU and local communities.
