PLU School of Business

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN FINANCE (MSF)

Industry relevant, cross-disciplinary, globally aware, ethically grounded

The PLU School of Business was founded in 1960 and has been accredited by AACSB International since 1971.  In addition to the MS in Finance, PLU offers the BBA, MBA, BS in Financial Mathematics, and BA in Economics.

MSF PROGRAM

The MSF is jointly offered by faculty from Finance, Economics, Accounting, and Mathematics to offer cross-disciplinary education that uniquely prepares graduates to excel in financial careers.  It is a 10-month, full-time, quantitatively rigorous degree program offered to new graduates as well as students with industry experience.  The program begins each September.

MSF VISION

The PLU MSF is pragmatic and industry-focused, yet grounded in its cross-disciplinary foundations. Graduates are equipped to hit the ground running with a powerful set of skills and tools from a curriculum designed in collaboration with industry.

CFA ALIGNMENT

The program content aligns closely with the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) curriculum. The fall semester covers much of the CFA Level I content, while January term and spring semester prepare students for the Level II examination. Session timing allows interested students to sit for the Level I exam in December and for the Level II exam in June.

PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

Those with or without industry experience are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have quantitative backgrounds, and are likely to have an undergraduate degree in finance, mathematics, economics, accounting, engineering, physics, or another quantitative discipline. Target students:

  • Recent undergraduates hoping to embark on careers in finance with a skill set that differentiates them from their peers.
  • Graduates in quantitatively rich disciplines (e.g., sciences and engineering) who want to prepare for careers in finance.
  • Students interested in pursuing the CFA Charter.
  • International students interested in studying in the U.S. while obtaining the MSF degree and better preparing for the CFA charter examinations.
  • Industry professionals wishing to pursue the MSF degree while intensively preparing for the CFA examinations.
  • Accounting majors fulfilling CPA credit hour requirements.
