This week, eNews focuses on Living On-Campus/Living Off-Campus. Read on to learn more about moving-in, living on campus and commuting from off campus. Also, take a look at the list of To Dos, the PLU fun fact, and the events happening on campus this week.
Living On-Campus
Moving-In
Residence
Halls open on Thursday, September 4th at 9:00 am.
At move-in you will:
- Be welcomed to your new home!
- Receive your room key & room number.
- Receive a detialed Room Condition Report form to complete before you move in fully.
- Meet the leaders in your Residence Hall Council.
- Meet Residence Hall staff: Resident Assistants and your Resident Director!
If you have questions about your housing assignment, please contact Residential Life at 253-535-7200. Make sure you have completed your Housing and Meal Plan Contract!
Residence
Hall Council
Each
residence hall has a Hall Council (RHC) that coordinates programming,
represents your interests to Residential Life and the Residence
Hall Association (RHA) and purchases shared-use items for the
hall community. RHA is the all-residential-student government that
does campus-wide programming and advocates for residential students
to PLU's administration.
During Move-In Day, the RHCs will have sign up sheet available to you to sign up for an all-hall retreat, a hall t-shirt and pay for hall dues. Also, they will be handing out hall identifiers to encourage hall spirit and community.
Residence
Hall Staff
Every
residence hall has a staff of Resident Assistants
(RAs) and a Resident Director (RD). Resident
Assistants are the primary peer resource for ALL on-campus
students. If you need to have a light bulb replaced in your room
or just need someone to talk to, your RA can help. RAs are also
great peer educators and community builders. They plan events that
supplement your classroom learning or just allow you to have FUN
with your community members. Resident Directors
are full-time professionals who live on-campus and supervise RAs,
oversee all activities within their hall(s) of responsibility and
work on university projects.

Students are offered an optional insurance plan through Dewar Insurance Company that covers tuition, room and meals should the need arise to withdraw from PLU for medical reasons. Printed information will be coming to your permanent address this week. Information is also available by accessing the Dewar website at http://www.collegerefund.com and select Pacific Lutheran University or contact the Office of Student Life at 253 535-7191 or slif@plu.edu. Student Health Insurance! Medical health insurance is required for all domestic full-time undergraduate students and all full-time and part-time international students. Students will be automatically enrolled and billed in the PLU Health Insurance Plan if they do not waive-out of the insurance plan by midnight on September 19, 2008. No waivers will be accepted after this date. There are no exceptions. If you have a comparable primary health insurance plan, you may waive-out online at www.plu.edu/health. You can also view the costs, plan and details at the website!
