Welcome to eNews from PLU!

Welcome to eNews! This electronic newsletter will give you important information to prepare for your success at PLU. eNews includes convenient reference information on topics ranging from money to eating on campus to computing and telecommunications resources. eNews will also have an updated to-do list with reminders about important pre-arrival business. You will receive a new installment of eNews each Monday during the summer, be sure to check your PLU e-mail at least once a week this summer and stay connected!

What's on Your Mind?
"I don’t want to use my PLU e-mail account. What should I do?" PLU makes it easy to forward your ePass account to another address. PLU faculty, staff and students rely heavily on email contact. Don't miss important information: forward your ePass account today! Click to open up PLU Webmail. Follow the directions listed here to forward your email.

I have questions! Who should I contact during the summer? If you know which office will likely have the answer, then contact them! You are a Lute now and our services are available to you Click here for quick Department & Office Directory. If the office you call does not have the answer, then they will refer you appropriately! If you can not find the right office, please call the Campus Concierge at 535-7411!

When do I find out who will be my Academic Advisor? Advisor Assignment Letters will be mailed mid-August. Questions? Contact Academic Advising at 253-535-7459.

Health History Form: Required for Attendance! Complete Health History Form and return to Health Center by August 1. Questions? Contact the Health Center 253-535-7337.

Student Health Insurance! Medical health insurance is required for all domestic full-time undergraduate students and all full-time and part-time international students. Students will be automatically enrolled and billed in the PLU Health Insurance Plan if they do not waive-out of the insurance plan by midnight on Friday, September 19, 2008. No waivers will be accepted after this date. There are no exceptions. If you have a comparable primary health insurance plan, you may waive-out online here. You can also view the costs, plan and details at the website!

Eating and Sleeping -- Housing Contracts and Meal Plans!
First year students, who will be living on-campus, are required to sign a Housing Contract and Meal Plan online here. When you electronically sign your housing contract, you are automatically signed up for the meal plan The Lute Choice. It offers approximately 3 meals a day. If that’s okay with you - you're done and you don't have to do anything else. However, there are other options! If you'd like to choose one of them, you'll also need to complete a 2008-2009 Optional Meal Plan Contract online. Read these contracts carefully before you submit them! There are deadlines for changing or canceling meal plans.

"I wonder who my roommate is..." Roommate assignment letters will be mailed from Residential Life the first week of August. Questions? Contact Residential Life 253-535-7200.

Complete Payment Contract 2008-2009 and return to Student Services Center. Questions? Contact the Student Services at 253-535-7161 or 800-678-3243.

Request your final high school transcript, AP scores and/or college/university transcripts be sent to PLU. Questions? Contact the Registrar's Office at 253-535-7131.

Plan for New Student Orientation! Residence Halls open at 9am on Thursday, September 4 and Orientation events begin at 3:30 pm. Parents and families are invited for special programs on Thursday and Friday. Check out the online orientation schedule and click here for local hotel information.

What about info on Orientation? You will receive an Orientation Brochure in the last week of July. This will contain information about student and family orientation programs. Your response will be needed, so watch your mail for this important information. Questions? If you have not received your orientation brochure by August 1, then contact Student Involvement and Leadership (SIL) at sil@plu.edu or 253-535-7195.

What else will I receive?
PLU's summer all student newsletter, "Connections" will be delivered to your mailbox in late July. This contains first-day of class information and campus updates for all Lutes.

Who Does What?
(Spotlight on an Essential Program to New Students)


This week's spotlight is on the Student Services Center. SSVC is PLU's student resource for guiding students through the educational and financial process. They will answer questions and provide help with financial aid questions, registration, billing information, change of address, and help with adding, dropping, and wait-listing classes during the academic year. SSVC welcomes students to contact them anytime!

The Center also hosts the "Lute Buck Discount" - a $75 discount from tuition and other costs. "Lute Buck Discount" information will be included in your first billing statement.
