PLU's Softball Team celebrates its DIII national championship win, shortly after beating defending champion Linfield on May 21 in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship game in Salem, Virginia.

Governor's declaration makes it official

With a stroke of her pen on Thursday, Gov. Christine Gregoire declared Friday, May 25, as "Pacific Lutheran University Softball Day" in the State of Washington. The proclamation congratulated the entire team, noting that in finishing with a 45-11 season, the team logged the most wins in a single season in the program's history.

Stacey Hagensen '12 received a call out in the proclamation for her Most Oustanding Player Awards and Hagensen and Kaaren Hatlen also received props for All-American honors for their play on the field, and Academic All American First Team recognition for their work in the classroom.

The team won the national championship against Linfield on Monday, and the PLU community welcomed them home with a celebration on Tuesday. During the celebration, President Loren. J. Anderson congratulated the team for being top-notch athletes and scholars both. To view the proclamation, click here.

Hagensen leads Lutes past Luther in NCAA opener

Lutes head to Virginia May 18-22 for the college softball national championships

After sweeping through the regional final, concluding with a 4-0 win against UT Tyler, the Lutes will play in the NCAA Division III National Softball Championship. PLU faces Luther College in their first game at 10:30 a.m. PST Friday, May 18.

The team is led by head coach Erin Van Nostrand.

This year's team has established a new PLU record for victories in a season with 41 and won the Northwest Conference tournament title, on its way to winning the Tyler Regional title game and heading to the Division III Softball World Series.

This is the Lutes first trip to the softball national championships since 2002. Several Lutes made the all tournament team for the Tyler Regional, including tournament Most Valuable Player Stacey Hagensen '12. Also on the All-tournament team are first baseman Amanda Hall '13, designated hitter Kaaren Hatlen '13 and outfielder Montessa Califano '13. Hagensen struck out seven on her way to throwing a four-hit shutout in the regional title game.
