  • Mystery, Wonder, and Transformation:  Lessons from Literature and Nature in Antarctica
Dr. Chuck Bergman, Professor of English.
As our PLU classes travel to Antarctica and other spectacular wild destinations in South America, one of the first questions we always get from other travelers is: “What are you studying?” You can see their shock when we tell them, “Literature.” In this lecture and slide show, we’ll travel to Antarctica and South America. We’ll examine how literature uniquely speaks to us with the many voices of nature. How do wild creatures comment on literature, how does nature make us human, and how do we find ourselves transformed in the Earth’s wildest places?
  • The Wild Hope Center for Vocation at PLU
    Dr. Lynn Hunnicutt, Director
The Wild Hope Center for Vocation supports students as they ask Big questions about the purpose of their lives and labor.  Rooted in the university’s mission “to educate for lives of thoughtful inquiry, service, leadership, and care - for others, their communities and the earth,” the Wild Hope Center works across the university to consider the integral relationship between education and care for the world and its inhabitants.
