Relay For Life

Each year a group of dedicated students work to put on an 18-hour event at the track on campus at PLU. This 18-hour event is full of games, music, community fun, and walking for a cause! All of this takes place to honor and celebrate cancer survivors and to fight together for a cure! PLU Relay For Life is on again this year and is coming up fast. The event will kick off on Friday, April 26th at 6:00pm and will continue through the night and into Saturday. Everyone – students, staff, and community members alike – are invited and encouraged to join us for the fun!

Last year, participants of Relay For Life raised over $32,000 towards cancer research and to support patient services provided by The American Cancer Society. This year we are trying to exceed that amount! Students have already begun to register for teams and are working together to raise money towards our goal and to fight back against cancer. This event is attended by students across campus, staff members at PLU, faculty departments, and community members around Parkland and Tacoma. It is a favorite event of each spring semester and we want to invite you to participate as well! This year is also very special as PLU President, Dr. Thomas W. Krise, and his wife, Mrs. Patricia Krise, are the Honorary Event Chairs joining us in the fight.

Are you a survivor? Or do you know a survivor who you would like us to honor at the PLU Relay? You can sign up “virtual” survivors even if you, or they, are unable to be on campus this April!

Encourage your student to join a team! Teams are formed amongst groups of friends, clubs and teams, and in residence halls, there is a spot in Relay For Life for every PLU student. Once they’ve joined, be sure to give them fundraising support and encourage them to consider lifestyle choices that can help to combat cancer (like wearing sunscreen!).

Donate to an existing Relay For Life team by visiting our website.

Most importantly, come join us on April 26th – 27th for the actual event!! You’ll have the chance to see some of our campus talent showcased, and witness an incredibly moving sight of students walking together to celebrate, remember, and fight back! The event begins with opening ceremonies and a survivor lap at 6:00pm.
