November 2nd: 6th Annual Knutson Lecture
7:30pm-9:30pm, Lagerquist Hall
Dr. Marcus Borg will lecture on Speaking Christian: Reclaiming Christian Language. He writes, "Religions are like languages: to be Christian includes speaking and understanding Christian. Yet in our time, Christian language is becoming increasingly unfamiliar and even more seriously often misunderstood because of a common framework that shapes and distorts its meaning. This lecture will name the problem and present an alternative and more biblical framework for understanding 'speaking Christian'."

November 7th: Fall Lecture in Holocaust Studies
7:00pm-10:00pm, Nordquist Lecture Hall
Professor Hubert Locke, former Director of the Graduate School of Public Administration (now the Jackson School) at the University of Washington. Professor Locke's topic will be "Martin Niemoeller and the German Church Struggle: A Second Look." He knew Niemoeller and has written about him. Now he will look more closely at Niemoeller's attitude toward Jews and his response to the German crimes against Jews.

November 8th: Got (Gender) Privilege
7:00pm-8:30pm, UC 133
Privilege is power. We must recognize it in order to identify our own privilege, to hold those accountable that perpetuate it, and strive to use our privileges for the benefit of our communities. Join The Diversity Center for the 5th Annual Got Privilege Panel.

November 8th: History Department Lecture

The Mexico-US Solidarity Network presents: "Sowing Struggle: Urban and rural social movements in Tlaxcala, Mexico," featuring Luz Rivera Martinez of the Consejo National Urbano Campesino (CNUC).

Mark Brombaugh is Interim Director of Music Ministries at Christ Episcopal Church, Tacoma, WA, a position he shares with his wife, Kathryn Nichols. From 1992-2008 he was Director of Music and Organist at the United Church on the Green (UCC), New Haven, Connecticut. Before assuming this position he has held various faculty positions at the University of Oregon, Westminster Choir College, and the University of Illinois. He holds degrees from Oberlin College, the University of Louisville, and Yale University. Dr. Brombaugh recital includes works of Buxtehude, Bach, Whitlock, Saint, Scheidemann, and PLU Professor Emeritus David P. Dahl. Tickets: $15 general admission, $10 senior citizens (55+), $5 PLU Community, alumni, free 18 and under.

November 14th: Jazz Ensemble Concert
In the UC room 213, UC Chris Knutzen West, UC Chris Knutzen East, UC Chris Knutzen Hall, UC CK Hallway. With special guest Mountlake Terrace High School Jazz Ensemble.

November 15th: University Symphony Orchestra Concert

November 16th: Feast or Famine discussion
Join Campus Ministry for a unique learning experience about hunger in our society. For more information, contact the Campus Ministry office at x7464.

November 16th: Around the World in a Day
5:00pm-9:00pm in the UC room 133 (Union Pacific Room), University Center Lower Gray Area, SIL Multipurpose Room, 134
Come and travel around the world at this International Education Week event. PLU students who have studied away and international students will lead short cultural activities from their country.

November 16th: Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Panel
5:30pm-6:30pm, UC Regency Room (UC 203)
The Volunteer Center will be hosting a panel to speak about issues of Hunger and Homelessness. All are welcome to attend! Hors d'oeuvres will be served, as well!

November 16th: University Concert Band Performance
