Campus Ministry provides opportunities and a safe place for the PLU community to explore and engage in issues of faith, spirituality, and service. University Pastors Nancy Connor and Dennis Sepper are available to provide religious resources and pastoral care to all students, faculty, and staff.
We offer three Chapel services during the week, which include a diversity of music and worship styles. Our chapel speakers are faculty, students, staff and visiting dignitaries reflecting the diversity of the PLU community. For the month of October, our Chapel theme will be based around Psalm 23: “Still Waters.”
In addition to Chapel, Campus Ministry is proud to house The University Congregation, one of only a few student-directed, student-lead congregations in the ELCA. Our services, which take place every Sunday morning at 11 a.m., combine a mixture of traditional and contemporary services, reflecting both our Lutheran heritage and a diverse range of ecumenical traditions. At our Homecoming Worship service on October 16, 2011 Dr. Loren Anderson will deliver the sermon for the day and the Choir of the West will be leading the worship service. All are welcome! There will also be another special service planned for Family Weekend!
Campus Ministry also organizes a wide range of service events, special trips, and our annual Alternative Spring Break Trip. In September, we led a group of students on our traditional Mount Rainier Hike. In spite of the rain and the mists surrounding the mountain, everyone had a great time! In October, our Campus Ministry Stewards, University Congregation Council, and members of PLU’s Interfaith Council will visit the All Merciful Saviour Orthodox Monastery on Vashon Island. We will also be hosting a Reformation Party on October 26th.
